SFE 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb open to the public

Firefighters walking up a metal staircase, walls adorned with photo tributes.

Summit Fire & EMS is hosting its third annual 9/11 Memorial Stair climb at our fire station in Copper Mountain, and the public is invited to join in! This year, we will be conducting the effort twice: On Sunday, Sept. 8, and again on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to make it available to anyone who wants to participate!

Drop-ins are welcome, but to ensure a spot, please pre-register for this FREE event!

For Wednesday, Sept. 11, click here.

What is the 9/11 stair climb?

"The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to honor and remember the New York firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on Sept. 11, 2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY brother or sister, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through firefighter and community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters is honored and that the world knows we will never forget.

Who is the climb for?

SFE's stair climb is a capped event for 100 people who want to participate in the memorial endurance event. This event is open for firefighters and the general public.

Participation is open to all age groups. Children are welcome, but strollers/joggers are prohibited on the stairs due to the close proximity of other climbers. We encourage the use of child carriers (backpacks or infant slings). Children under the age of 12 need to be supervised by an adult and should remain in close proximity to their guardian.

For refreshments, water will be provided, but please bring your own food and snacks.

Participants can wear any appropriate exercise apparel they would like.
